ASKe Plagiarism Meeting, 4 June 2009.

Plagiarism advice recently presented at the third annual “Institutional Policies and Procedures for Dealing with Plagiarism” meeting on 4 June at Oxford Brookes University.

Plagiarism advice hosted a well-attended workshop session on “Integrating use of plagiarism detection software into institutional academic misconduct policies” which shared good practice and advice in this area drawn from a range of institutions.

The day itself provided a useful insight into research and approaches to addressing plagiarism within institutions, with wide-ranging and enlightening discussions. Slides and photographs from the event can be found on the ASKe CETL website.

Plagiarism advice at EdTech!

Last week saw the inaugural Turnitin Irish User Group meeting at the National College of Ireland in Dublin, and PlagiarismAdvice.org also had a stand at the EdTech conference over the following two days.

Around 20 attendees from Institutions across Ireland were present at the User Group. Presentations from various institutions on their use of Turnitin were all well received and a good discussion concerning various models of use ensued. From our point of view, it was interesting to compare how the question of plagiarism was being addressed in Ireland compared to the UK. We also discussed the setting up of a forum for Irish users similar to that for UK users.

The EdTech conference was also a very well run event with some good Keynote speakers. From our perspective, it was great to put some faces to names at last! We also got the chance to show our new Moodle plug-in to various people, which received a great deal of interest. Overall, a very enjoyable, well organised event that we will be certainly attending again in future years.
